Dimethylaminoethanol – DMAE

What is DMAE?

DMAE, or Dimethylaminoethanol, is a compound naturally produced in small amounts in the brain. It is thought to support brain health because it is a precursor to choline, which then helps produce acetylcholine, a critical neurotransmitter for memory, learning, and attention. It is also used in skin care products for its potential skin-tightening and anti-aging effects.

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) is an organic compound structurally related to choline, which acts as a mild central nervous system stimulant. It is hypothesized to enhance brain function by promoting the production of acetylcholine, potentially crossing the blood-brain barrier more effectively than choline itself. Enhanced brain function is associated with improved concentration, verbal facility, increased alertness, and faster thinking abilities. DMAE has also been studied for its ability to reduce lipofuscin deposits, an age-related waste product found in neurons and skin, and its use has been linked to improvements in attention span in children with ADD.
